On the Use of Recycled Asphalt and Trinidad Lake Asphalt (TLA) for the Preparation of High Modulus Asphalt Concrete

Rutting of asphalt pavement occurs earlier and is more serious under the increasingly heavy traffic load conditions that can be found in subtropical monsoon climate regions. High modulus concrete (HMAC) with excellent anti-rutting anti-fatigue properties generally used to mitigate this issue. Given relatively high cost additives type asphalt, study feasibility using recycled mixture (RAP) Trinidad lake (TLA) for preparation HMAC considered. The mineral composition RAP first analyzed, then TLA modified different levels content assess effect on performance mixture. Finally, high-temperature rheological extracted bitumen adhesion characteristic between are analyzed. results show after combustion, yellowish greyish minerals display alkalinity values, while exhibits an improved ability combine bitumen. Thus, significantly enhance rutting resistance mixtures. aged makes mixed binder harder improves its at temperatures.
